Testing music therapy at home for patients who have suffered a stroke
A joint study between IDIBELL, Hospital del Mar, the University of Helsinki and the Spanish National Research Council funded by La Marató de TV3 tries to analyze the effects of music therapy (musical learning) once patients have finished hospital rehabilitation and are in a chronic state of the disease
To do this, they designed a keyboard linked to a smart tablet that allows the participants of the study to do their exercises at home and learn gradually in an established manner
An earlier study of the same group shows that musical therapy, like other therapies, has similar effects in motor rehabilitation for patients who have suffered a stroke, having a strong impact in mood improvement and quality of life
A clue to the pathophysiology of LCA12, a congenital form of inherited blindness
LCA12 is a form of Leber´s Congenital Amaurosis, an inherited retinal dystrophy manifested from very early ages that is characterized by severe vision loss and rapid retinal degeneration. An study on the animal model of this form of blindness reveals the GCAP proteins as mediators of the pathogenesis. Ablation of GCAPs in the mouse model substantially delays retinal degeneration. The study unveils a novel pathway of damage to consider for therapeutic purposes.
Identified a brain circuit that could indicate the risk of developing Alzheimer’s in healthy people
Researchers from IDIBELL and CIBERSAM have discovered how alterations in the connectivity of two regions of the brain represents a potential biomarker for Alzheimer’s vulnerability.
IDIBELL and Dexeus Mujer will study embryonic development through human embryo genome edition
The team of Dra. Anna Veiga, who leads the study, will optimize the CRISPR/Cas9 technique to modify the human embryo genome
IDIBELL researchers discover that a molecule of blood is effective against autoimmune kidney disease
The administration of C4BP (beta-) in mice that reproduce lupus nephritis considerably improves the symptomatology of the disease.

LOXL2 protein levels are increased in the cells from this type of sarcoma.
Inhibition of p38 reduces the growth of lung tumors
The work shows that patients with low levels of this protein have a better prognosis.
