The Research Conference of the Catalan Health Institute 2020-2021, held today, June 28, has distinguished Dr. Jordi Adamuz with the ICS 2021 Nurse Research Career Award, endowed with € 10,000. Adamuz is a principal investigator at the IDIBELL nursing research group, and is currently a referral nurse in the Information Systems Support Unit of the Bellvitge University Hospital, and a research support nurse at the same institution.

With a doctorate from the University of Barcelona and a degree in Nursing from the Ramon Llull University, Adamuz combines healthcare work with research and teaching, as an associate professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the UB at the Bellvitge Campus. Author of about twenty scientific articles, his latest works have been published in 2021 in the BMJ Open journal. One of them shows that the early detection of deterioration in COVID-19 patients by nursing staff improves their recovery. Specifically, the article describes that systematized nursing surveillance through the VIDA system, developed by the Catalan Health Institute and IDIBELL, is capable of detecting and preventing avoidable complications, transfers to the ICU and in-hospital mortality. In turn, the last article indicates that the understanding of the patient about his diagnosis before discharge is currently suboptimal, and points out that the impact of new strategies to improve the transition of care should be evaluated, which incorporate the opinion of patients and of nurses on discharge from hospital readiness. Finally, the involvement of Dr. Adamuz with the management of the centers where he works has led him to currently form part of the Research Committee of the Bellvitge University Hospital and the IDIBELL Drug Research Ethics Committee.

During the Conference, which this year took place in the Conference Room of the Vall d’Hebron Hospital, a round table was held on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on research, moderated by Dr. Joan Xavier Comella, Director of the VHIR. Together with Adamuz, Dr. Oriol Yuguero Torres (IRBLleida) has received the ICS 2021 Young Researcher Award, and Dr. Rafael Simó Canonge (VHIR), the Research Career Award 2021 at ICS Hospitals. Finally, During the event, the awards for the year 2020 were also awarded, which distinguished Dr. Joaquín Burgos with the ICS Young Researcher Award, Dr. Miguel Ángel Muñoz with the ICS Research Career Award in Primary Care, and Dr. Josep Tabernero with the Research Career Award at ICS Hospitals.
