Hepato-biliary-pancreatic pathology
Summary
This group’s main area of interest is the study of diseases associated with the liver, in particular complications involving liver transplants, cirrhosis, hepatitis B and C, liver and pancreatic cancer.
The approach is mainly of a clinical nature, with patient studies and epidemiological (populational) studies on the characteristics that correlate with the prognoses, and the causes of treatment complications. The relevance of the group’s research is clear. On the one hand, pancreatic cancer has one of the worst prognoses due to it being difficult to diagnose, and on the other hand, due to the central position of the liver metabolism in the human body.
