The Bellvitge University Hospital, involved in the awareness campaign on the prevention of stroke

On Monday October 29th, Bellvitge University Hospital participated in the awareness campaign on the importance of preventing and recognizing the stroke symptoms that took place simultaneously in 31 hospitals in Spain. The campaign was organized by the Cerebrovascular Disease Study Group of the Spanish Society of Neurology (SEN) and Boehringer Ingelheim.

From 9am and 2pm the Vincenç Ferrer Room, on the ground floor of the Bellvitge University Hospital, hold in several tests to determine the risk of stroke, such as the determination of blood pressure and blood glucose, and, if necessary, an echo-Doppler to check the status of the arteries, and offer information about disease prevention and how to recognize its symptoms.

The stroke is the second leading cause of death and the leading cause of serious disability in our country. In Catalonia, each year there are about 12,500 new cases. One in six Catalan will suffer a stroke during their lives.

Catalonia has 8 stroke units with 38 beds and is the region with more specialized units in this condition.

In addition to the Bellvitge UH participated in the Catalan campaign the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital, the Arnau de Vilanova University Hospital, Althaia Care University

Network and the Josep Trueta University Hospital (which, following the feast of Sant Narcís, delayed the activity to October 30th).
