The international honour distinguishes a research work which content constitutes a significant contribution in the field of Health Sciences. In the case of Manel Esteller, the distinction is for his studies in the least-studied and most obscure part of our genetic structure: RNAs, the molecules involved in protein synthesis and the transmission of genetic information. It is in this area that Esteller has unveiled important advances in cancer diagnosis, prognosis and therapy.

The honourable mention will be bestowed on May 14th at the Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar in Porto.

The BIAL Foundation was created in 1994 by Laboratórios BIAL in conjunction with the Council of Rectors of Portuguese Universities. BIAL’s Foundation mission is to foster the scientific study of Man from both the physical and spiritual perspectives.
