Manel Esteller, chosen Elect Academic of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia

The researcher Manel Esteller, director of the Cancer and Epigenetics Biology Program at the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL), Professor of Genetics at the University of Barcelona and ICREA Research Professor has chosen Academic Elect of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia (RAMC). Esteller will occupy the space left by Moises Broggi, Creu de Sant Jordi de la Generalitat de Catalunya, which becomes Emeritus.

The RAMC was created in 1770 and since 1874, plus doctors, it hosts prestigious related sciences health professionals (pharmacists, veterinarians, biologists, etc..). The Academy’s main functions is to act as advisory body of health administration and justice, to promote studies on Catalan History of Medicine and organize the Congress of Catalan History of Medicine, in addition to promoting discussion on current health issues.

Manel Esteller’s election results from his contribution to the study of epigenetics in health and disease. The academic act with the inaugural address will be held Sunday April 22, 2012 to 18.30h at RAMC, Carme Street, 47, together with the Institute of Catalan Studies (IEC).
