The director of the Cancer Epigenetics and Biology program at IDIBELL and professor of the University of Barcelona, Manel Esteller, has won the ‘I National Award for Research on Cancer Doctores Diz Pintado’ for his scientific career, awarded by the Cancer Research Foundation of the University of Salamanca (Ficus).
The award was granted to Esteller for his contributions to the field of medicine, which have contributed to the development of epigenetics as a biological discipline that studies the environmental changes that affect the genes. Thus, his research has helped to understand key events in the transformation of cancer cells and to provide new target molecules for developing new therapies.
The Cancer Research Foundation of the University of Salamanca (Ficus) linked to the Cancer Research Center (CIC), aims to reward the effort and the scientific career of the best young researcher born after the 1 January 1966, who has developed his career in Spain and abroad and who has provided a significant contribution in cancer research.
Manel Esteller has received the award on January 28 as part of the academic session that the universities of Salamanca and Salamanca Pontifical celebrate in occasion of the Feast of St. Thomas Aquinas.
