The IDIBELL-Ins Bellvitge Tandem opens the academic year with the inauguration of new scientific instruments for the secondary school laboratory

NO87 - Inici curs Tándem - Imatge1

The educational Tandem formed by the Bellvitge secondary school and IDIBELL has started the 2022-23 academic year with a visit by IDIBELL’s Scientific Director, Dr. Fernando Fernández Aranda, to the school facilities. Received by a team of teachers from the center and by a group of students, he reviewed the projects that the Tandem has carried out over the last few years, and which are exhibited at the secondary school. Finally, they all visited the center’s laboratory and inaugurated the new scientific and educational instruments that, thanks to the Tandem project, IDIBELL has acquired to improve, in a very substantial way, the quality of practical teaching in biological and health sciences. The new equipment is made up of three powerful magnifying loupes with transillumination and an incubator for the growth of microorganisms.

Soon, the Tandem will be presented to the students who this year begin the 3rd year of ESO, and also to the families of the center. On the other hand, the students’ first contact with IDIBELL research will take place on October 4, within the framework of the Sinergia 2022 activities program. It will be then that a group of students will visit the research laboratories and attend two talks by young IDIBELL researchers, Joan Roncero and Laura Asensio, who will talk to students and lead gamified activities on embryonic development and vaccination against papillomavirus.

During the academic year that is beginning, the Tandem will continue educational projects that have been successful in recent years, such as the production of Life & Science magazine, the European Stars Game project, the Women of Science series, or the implementation of new laboratory practices in charge of the URIB. In addition, a new collaboration between teachers and researchers will begin, motivated by the launch of the new subject of Biomedicine in 1st year of Baccalaureate.
