The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has published volume 17 of its Handbooks of Cancer Prevention collection, which focuses on the screening of colorectal cancer. The issue has been written by a workgroup of 23 independent experts from 15 countries appointed by the Agency, including Dr. Montse García, IDIBELL-ICO researcher of the Cancer Prevention and Control group.

The workgroup assessed the scientific evidence regarding the effectiveness of screening for colorectal cancer in reducing incidence and mortality, in addition to comparing different early detection techniques, and evaluating the determinants of participation in screening programs, the identification of high-risk population and adequate surveillance strategies according to risk stratification.
