Last Monday, November 13th, the ‘Best Ideas 2017’ awards ceremony, organized annually by the Diario Médico newspaper, took place at the National Theater of Catalonia.

In this year’s edition, Dr. Manel Esteller, Researcher of the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL), ICREA Research Professor and Professor of Genetics of the University of Barcelona received one of the awards in the category of Research and Pharmacology for the work “Study of the Epitranscriptome of Cancer”. The award-winning research identifies the fact that, in addition to an “spelling” of DNA (epigenetics linked to genetics) there is also an RNA spelling, transcriptome epitranscriptome, and characterizes its alterations in leukemia and lung cancer.

The “Best Ideas” awards aim to be a recognition of the work of professionals, institutions and companies that have contributed to improve medicine and healthcare during 2017.
