The Clinical Research Director of ICO, Head of Medical Oncology and coordinator of the Oncobell program of IDIBELL, Ramon Salazar, has been awarded with funding granted by the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) and the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCII) to be able to continue its research project within the ‘TRASCAN Horizon 2020’ Program of the European Union. Specifically, his research work on colon cancer focuses on studying the circulating DNA in the tumor to identify the risk of persistent disease in stages 2 and 3. This project is carried out in collaboration with Elena Elez, an oncologist at Vall d’Hebron Hospital, and is led from France.

This financial aid, which implies more resources for research projects, was possible thanks to the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) and the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCII) with the aim of broadening the possiblibities of these research projects funded by the European Union to improve treatments, increase patient survival, contribute to an early diagnosis and stop the disease.

TRASCAN is a network consisting of 25 entities from 19 countries that was created in order to enhance the results of cancer research and make a more efficient use of resources thanks to collaboration between scientific teams of different nationalities. The general call of TRASCAN awards 14 grants. Of these, five are from Spanish groups, which now will also be funded by the AECC and ISCIII.
