On April 2nd Marga Frontera joined IDIBELL as scientific office manager. Her mission, in her own words, is “getting the researcher, as far as possible, do not worry about anything but to investigate”.
Frontera knows the day-to-day work in the laboratory because she has worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the laboratory of genomic imprinting of the Babraham Institute in Cambridge and in the research group of obesity and diabetes at Mateu Orfila Foundation in Mallorca. She also has management experience as coordinator of infrastructures and laboratories at the Health Research Foundation of Balearic Islands.
With this background, the new scientific office manager proposes her job in a structure like the IDIBELL as a challenge: “At first glance, it is a complex structure made up of several parts with their own idiosyncrasies and their own way of working. This, in part is positive because each component has strengths that make IDIBELL stronger but it is also a challenge because it will be necessary to find a minimum of homogeneity in order to work more effectively. ”
In this month and a half Marga Frontera has begun work on improving the management of the platforms and the use of common areas of the institute. Over time, she expects researchers will see her “as someone who can facilitate their work, who seek and find solutions to problems”.
“I am here to dedicate myself 100% to research management” explained Frontera who will work closely with the scientific director, Josep Maria Menchón, with who she hopes “participate in the decisions of the science policy to be followed by the institution.”
