IDIBELL participates in a European project to detect and prevent type 2 diabetes

Researchers of the Epigenetics and Cancer Biology program at IDIBELL, led by Manel Esteller, participate in the European project DEXLIFE that aims research new ways to detect and prevent type 2 diabetes.

The project funded with 5.5 million euros by the European Union within the 7th Framework Programme for Research and Development will take place over three and half years and will include the participation of clinicians, basic researchers and companies.

DEXLIFE will search genetic biomarkers, in blood and muscle to establish a better understanding of the progression of pre-diabetes to type 2 diabetes and how to prevent it.

The DEXLIFE project will be coordinated by Steno Diabetes Center in Denmark. The IDIBELL will be responsible for conducting the analysis epigenetic cells and tissues. The ten centers participating in the DEXLIFE are:
