The project also involved ICO’s Cancer Prevention Program, the Medical Oncology Service at ICO L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Bellvitge University Hospital and the Institute of Predictive and Personalized Medicine of Cancer (IMPPC).

Candidates for AECC’s call are stable research groups that promote cancer research applied to clinical practice. The amount will be allocated over five years.

The funded project focuses on six new lines of research that will answer many of the challenges that still exist in the study of hereditary cancer and family, including:

– Incorporating the latest methodologies in diagnostic algorithms

– Assessment of new markers to individualize risk and modify screening strategies, identificate new genes responsible for breast cancer and familial colon from different approaches in genomics and integrative biology

– Increase adherence to screening measures to reduce emotional impact.

The project evaluation has been conducted by the National Agency of Evaluation and Prospective (ANEP) of Spain.

AECC Foundation has also given aid to the National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) and the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO).
