On Friday, November 8th, the ninth edition of the IDIBELL PhD Day was held at the Bellvitge Campus of the UB. This event, which is held every year, is organized by the IDIBELL committee of predoctoral researchers in collaboration with different IDIBELL units and aims to promote the exchange of ideas and possible collaborations as well as to strengthen the research community of the Institute. In total, this event was attended by more than 200 people including research staff, teachers and other members of the IDIBELL community.
The opening ceremony was led by Dr Maria Molina, scientific director of IDIBELL, and Pilar Salamanca in representation of the Predoctoral Committee. Immediately afterwards and throughout the day, 9 oral presentations and more than 40 poster presentations by predoctoral researchers took place.
This edition of the PhD Day wanted to focus on the use of artificial intelligence in research. In this context, Lisa Saemisch (TPM Science) conducted the workshop “Artificial intelligence for effective reading” and then a thematic round table was held with Ignasi Cos (UB), Paula Petrone (ISGlobal), Alfredo Vellido (UPC), Carme Zambrana (BSC-CNS) and Antonio del Sol Mesa (ICIC bioGUNE, Bizkaia Technology Park). After the lunch break, Dr. Antonio del Sol Mesa gave the plenary talk.
Finally, after the awards ceremony, Dr. Gabriel Capellá, IDIBELL director, led the closing of a successful ninth edition of PhD Day.
The Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL) is a biomedical research center created in 2004. It is participated by the Bellvitge University Hospital and the Viladecans Hospital of the Catalan Institute of Health, the Catalan Institute of Oncology, the University of Barcelona and the City Council of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat.
IDIBELL is a member of the Campus of International Excellence of the University of Barcelona HUBc and is part of the CERCA institution of the Generalitat de Catalunya. In 2009 it became one of the first five Spanish research centers accredited as a health research institute by the Carlos III Health Institute. In addition, it is part of the “HR Excellence in Research” program of the European Union and is a member of EATRIS and REGIC. Since 2018, IDIBELL has been an Accredited Center of the AECC Scientific Foundation (FCAECC).
