The event took place within the framework of an extraordinary session of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia dedicated to this award, chaired by the vice president of this institution, Dr. Miquel Vilardell. Next to Dr. Vilardell, Dr. Laura Lladó, president of the Catalan Transplant Foundation and head of the Liver Transplant Unit of the Bellvitge University Hospital, presented the winner.
This is the second time that Dr. Núria Lloberas receives this award, which recognizes the first author of the scientific article with the most impact of the year in the field of transplantation. The article for which the award was granted is “A prospective controlled, randomized clinical trial of kidney transplant recipients developed personalized tacrolimus dosing using model-based Bayesan prediction”, and was published in Kidney International.
This research work has demonstrated the effectiveness of a system that adapts the doses of the immunosuppressant tacrolimus to the individual characteristics of each transplant person. In this way, the first step has been taken towards the deployment of personalized and precision medicine in kidney transplantation.
The main presentation was given by Dr. Lloberas herself, who presented the results and implications of this important study. In addition to Lloberas, various specialist doctors from the Nephrology Service of the Bellvitge Hospital and the research group in Nephrology and Renal Transplantation of IDIBELL, led by Dr. Josep M. Cruzado, with the support of the professionals from the University of Barcelona.
