The researcher Raúl Zamora Ros, from the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL) and the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), has been chosen by the jury of the Jesús Serra Foundation Research Awards as the winner in the clinical research category. This award is aimed at scientists below 45 years old specialized in nutrition, food and health.

Dr. Raúl Zamora has received this recognition for his career in the field of clinical research and, especially, for his research work in “Dietary polyphenols and their effects on obesity markers” in which evaluates the association between polyphenol exposure and obesity markers, as well as their effect on health parameters and weight loss in a weight loss treatment.

“Receiving this award is an excellent opportunity to get more resources and recognition of our research,” says Dr. Zamora. “The study on polyphenols still has a long way to go and this recognition is an important support that will help us achieve our goals,” he adds.

“Raúl Zamora is one of the most outstanding researchers at an international level in the polyphenol study field. Their project has a lot of quality, an enormous translational value and a great importance since there is still not enough knowledge available to make dietary recommendations for the general population due to its potential beneficial effect “explains Josep Manuel Menchón, scientific director of IDIBELL.

The award ceremony will take place next Wednesday, May 22 at the Rafael del Pino Auditorium in Madrid and will be attended by the Hon. Ms. Ángeles Heras Caballero, Secretary of State for Universities, Research, Development and Innovation; and of Mrs. Marta Natividad García Pérez, Executive Director of the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition. The event will be hosted by journalist Sonsoles Ónega.

The Jesús Serra Foundation Research Awards, with an economic endowment of € 30,000 for each category, aim to encourage research in a field that has proven to be fundamental: the relationship between nutrition, nutrition and health.

The other award-winning researcher, in the field of basic research, has been professor and researcher Salvador Aznar Benitah, of the Catalan Institution of Research and Advanced Studies (ICREA) and the Biomedical Research Institute of Barcelona (IRB Barcelona). He has been chosen for his research career and his research work “Impact of fatty acids in the diet on the cells that initiate metastasis.”
