The Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO) has granted a project to Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL) for the purchase of scientific equipment intended for laboratories, platforms and other scientific services with high-level technological instrumentation. The project, which is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), has a total cost of € 2.290.725,9 of which 1.145.362,95 € (50%) are subsidized.

The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) is a financial instrument of the European Commission. These funds are non-repayable grants and are managed directly by public authorities; as for the project awarded to IDIBELL, management is carried out by the Department of Enterprise and Knowledge of the Generalitat of Catalonia and is part of Catalonia’s ERDF Operational Programme 2007-2013, topic 1.

The purpose of ERDF is to strengthen economic and social cohesion in the European Union in order to correct imbalances between its regions. Among other actions, the ERDF funds infrastructure linked to research and innovation, telecommunications, environment, energy and transport.
