Manel Esteller,Vanguardia Science Award

The researcher Manel Esteller, Director of Epigenetics and Cancer Biology program at the Institute of Biomedical Research of Bellvitge (IDIBELL ), ICREA researcher and professor of Genetics at the University of Barcelona has won the Vanguardia Award for Science 2013.
The selected research work has been published in 2013 in the journal Genome Research and shows the existence of epigenetic differences between different human populations that could explain the different susceptibility to diseases.
The finalists were selected by a scientific advisory committee according to two criteria. On the one hand , scientific excellence and secondly, that the director and / or the first author of the research works in a Spanish research center .
Organized jointly by the Godó Group and the Foundation Catalonia-La Pedrera, the Vanguardia Award for Science is convened annually to give visibility to the excellent research carried out in Spain. This year , in its fourth edition, has received 33,620 valid votes from readers across the web www.lavanguardia.com, representing a new record of participation.
The authors of the three most voted investigations have been invited to present their results to the general public at the award ceremony, scheduled for April 24 at the La Pedrera building, at the home of the Catalonia La Pedrera Foundation.
