Researcher Rui Benedito of the National Center for Cardiovascular Research Carlos III (CNIC) Madrid explained his research on the regulation of angiogenesis through the Notch signalling pathway on April 5 at a conference cycle framed within IDIBELL seminars.
Angiogenesis is the formation of new blood vessels from pre-existing vessels. Benedito studies this process that normally occurs during embryonic development, growth and wound healing. “We want to understand how the Notch signalling pathway regulates the angiogenic activity in different cell types and at different stages of maturity” explained Benedito.
“In order to find very specific markers and targets in the angiogenesis process” the researcher said “we are developing new tools as new transgenic mouse models that allow us to work more accurately.”
