Between November 7 to 20 the Science Week is is celebrated throughout Europe. This is an initiative that aims to bring the results of scientific research to society.
The Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL) has scheduled for these days a number of research activities available to everyone. Seven conferences will be held on the progress in the investigation of various diseases, extracurricular activities designed to promote interest in science among high school students and an exhibition on various projects carried out in IDIBELL.
Seven IDIBELL researchers will explain their projects in search of new treatments in various fields, for instance cancer, heart disease or kidney transplants. The lectures will be from 5 to 6 pm in the conference hall of the Duran Reynals Hospital (ICO) in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, and the are aimed at all audiences.
On November 8 and 15, high school students from centres of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat will have the opportunity to learn genetics from IDIBELL researchers. Participants may take their DNA in a test tube. IDIBELL investigator at the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) Ignacio Blanco will offer a lecture on genetics.
Finally, during these days, the lobby of the Duran i Reynals Hospital of L’Hospitalet will host an exhibition on various research projects carried out by researchers from IDIBELL.
