The creation of this event has been promoted by the Llobregat Business Forum and IDIBELL, co-organizers of the event, with the collaboration of the Business Association L’Hospitalet and Baix Llobregat (AEBALL), the Chamber of Commerce, the City of L’Hospitalet, Hotel Porta Fira and the Catalan Association of Cystic Fibrosis.
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a serious disease that primarily affects the lungs and is caused by mutations in the CFTR gene. It is the most common among Caucasians, with a frequency of 1 per 2,500 births inherited disorder. This means that each year about twenty children are born suffering from cystic fibrosis in Catalonia. Over the past ten years there has been progress in the knowledge of the disease, but there is still no current effective therapy able to stop or reverse the progressive pulmonary deterioration suffered by these patients as a result of a vicious cycle of infection and inflammation. In this regard, Dr. Josep Maria Aran, the researcher who will receive the funds raised during the Charity Night, says it is “vitally important to identify new genes involved in the progression of lung disease, as their functional characterization will open new diagnostic and therapeutic prospects in the fight against cystic fibrosis”.
Hosted by TVE journalist Anna Grimau, the event next December 1st will feature speeches by Manuel Rosillo, president of AEBALL, Gabriel Capellà, Director of IDIBELL, Raquel Egea, Director of Innovation and Business Development of IDIBELL, Josep Maria Aran, IDIBELL researcher, Celestino Raya, president of the Catalan Association of Cystic Fibrosis, and the Mayor of L’Hospitalet, Núria Marín. The musical entertainment of the Night will be offered by Mariën Group, and one of the main attractions of the event will be a charity auction where attendees can purchase, among others, a Barça shirt signed by the player Jordi Alba or an original lithograph by renowned artist Arranz-Bravo, two personalities of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat who agreed to collaborate selflessly in this charity event against cystic fibrosis.
