The Bellvitge University Hospital has organized on 2 and 3 May, the VIII International Course of Metabolic and Bariatric Laparoscopic Surgery with the assistance of national and international leading experts.

The course is aimed at professionals in obesity surgery for discussion and improvement of technical aspects, and has included performing live surgeries, which have dual screen broadcast with interactivity between the operating room and the conference hall.

In addition, this year the course was complemented by a meeting of experts on laparoscopic gastric overlap or laparoscopic gastric plication. For the first time a group of international experts gathered to share experiences and knowledge about this new surgical procedure.

Bellvitge University Hospital has been one of the pioneering centers for this type of intervention. And thanks to the availability of the Da Vinci robotic surgical system it has been the world’s first center to perform a laparoscopic gastric plication robotic surgery.
