Un dels reptes m\u00e9s importants a qu\u00e8 s\u2019enfronten els \u00e9ssers vius \u00e9s adaptar-se a l\u2019ambient i, en particular, als canvis que impliquen un risc o estr\u00e8s per a l\u2019organisme. Aquestes condicions poden generar desequilibris metab\u00f2lics que ocasionen l\u2019anomenat estr\u00e8s oxidatiu, generant un proc\u00e9s de dany general en les c\u00e8l\u00b7lules a m\u00faltiples nivells que es pot associar a l\u2019aparici\u00f3 de malalties com el c\u00e0ncer, la diabetis o malalties neurodegeneratives com el Parkinson o l\u2019Alzheimer <\/p>\n

El paper de les sirtu\u00efnes<\/strong> <\/p>\n

El grup de Biologia de la Cromatina de l\u2019IDIBELL, encap\u00e7alat per l\u2019investigador ICREA \u00c0lex Vaquero, estudia el paper d\u2019una fam\u00edlia de prote\u00efnes anomenades sirtu\u00efnes en la resposta l\u2019estr\u00e8s oxidatiu i la seva contribuci\u00f3 al desenvolupament de malalties com el c\u00e0ncer i el control de l\u2019envelliment. Les sirtu\u00efnes actuen com a sensors i promotors de la resposta a aquestes situacions i semblen proporcionar una funci\u00f3 protectora a nivell cel\u00b7lular i de l\u2019organisme. <\/p>\n

L\u2019objectiu de l\u2019estudi era con\u00e8ixer la relaci\u00f3 funcional entre la sirtu\u00efna SirT1 en el manteniment de l\u2019estructura de l\u2019heterocromatina constitutiva i els investigadors han descobert que aquesta prote\u00efna, per una banda, modula els nivells de l\u2019enzim Suv39H1, implicat en el manteniment de l\u2019estructura de la heterocromatina, durant la resposta a l\u2019estr\u00e8s oxidatiu, i per altra banda, els resultats de l\u2019estudi suggereixen que \u201cla modulaci\u00f3 dels nivells de Suv39H1 per SirT1 implica un augment en la taxa de renovaci\u00f3 de l\u2019heterocromatina i a la vegada aix\u00f2 sembla implicar una major protecci\u00f3 del genoma\u201d, segons ha explicat Vaquero. <\/p>\n

El cap del grup de Biologia de la Cromatina ha afirmat que \u201caquest mecanisme \u00e9s important per entendre la resposta cel\u00b7lular a l\u2019estr\u00e8s oxidatiu, que \u00e9s un dels factors que pot ser clau en l\u2019inici del c\u00e0ncer\u201d <\/p>\n

Per \u00c0lex Vaquero, el fet de con\u00e8ixer el paper de les sirtu\u00efnes \u00e9s clau per a la nostra salut: \u201cEncara que no ens faria viure m\u00e9s, faria que la nostra vida fos m\u00e9s saludable, evitar\u00edem malalties com la diabetis, disminuiria la incid\u00e8ncia de tumors… En definitiva tindr\u00edem un major benestar\u201d. <\/p>\n
