Investigadors de l’IDIBELL han demostrat que les c\u00e8l\u00b7lules de c\u00e0ncer de mama que fan met\u00e0stasi al pulm\u00f3 expressen un major nivell de la prote\u00efna peroxirredoxina 2 (PRDX2). L\u2019estudi suggereix que la modulaci\u00f3 dels nivells d\u2019aquesta prote\u00efna podria ser una nova estrat\u00e8gia terap\u00e8utica per prevenir la met\u00e0stasi pulmonar. Els resultats de l\u2019estudi s\u2019han avan\u00e7at en l\u2019edici\u00f3 digital de la revista Oncogene<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n La PRDX2 \u00e9s un enzim d\u2019oxidaci\u00f3-reducci\u00f3 que protegeix les c\u00e8l\u00b7lules dels radicals lliures i per tant de l\u2019estr\u00e8s oxidatiu. Aix\u00f2 \u00e9s necessari en les c\u00e8l\u00b7lules pulmonars que viuen en un ambient amb molt d\u2019oxigen. En les c\u00e8l\u00b7lules de c\u00e0ncer de mama, la sobreexpressi\u00f3 de PRDX2 tamb\u00e9 les protegeix de l\u2019estr\u00e8s oxidatiu i promou el seu creixement i proliferaci\u00f3 als pulmons, \u00e9s a dir, la met\u00e0stasi.<\/p>\n Nou abordatge terap\u00e8utic i preventiu<\/strong><\/p>\n L\u2019equip coordinat per la investigadora del grup de Claus Biol\u00f2giques del fenotip Invasiu i Metast\u00e0tic de l\u2019IDIBELL, \u00c0ngels Sierra, va realitzar diversos experiments en l\u00ednies cel\u00b7lulars i models animals de ratolins que demostren que nivells baixos d\u2019expressi\u00f3 de PRDX2 en c\u00e8l\u00b7lules tumorals s\u00f3n suficients per interrompre el proc\u00e9s metast\u00e0tic al pulm\u00f3. \u201cAquestes troballes\u201d, ha explicat Sierra, \u201csuggereixen que la modificaci\u00f3 de l\u2019expressi\u00f3 de PRDX2 podria donar lloc a un nou abordatge terap\u00e8utic per prevenir la met\u00e0stasi pulmonar, ja que existeixen f\u00e0rmacs, que ja s\u2019estan provant en altres malalties, capa\u00e7os d\u2019inhibir la prote\u00efna\u201d.<\/p>\n Per a Sierra, el seg\u00fcent pas \u201c\u00e9s validar en un nombre prou elevat de pacients que l\u2019expressi\u00f3 d\u2019aquesta prote\u00efna \u00e9s un biomarcador del risc de met\u00e0stasi de pulm\u00f3 en c\u00e0ncer de mama. Si \u00e9s aix\u00ed, a aquestes pacients se\u2019ls podria administrar un tractament complementari a la quimioter\u00e0pia per prevenir la met\u00e0stasi pulmonar\u201d.
