Un punt en com\u00fa en tots els tumors humans \u00e9s que produeixen una activaci\u00f3 dels oncogens, gens causants de c\u00e0ncer, i provoquen una p\u00e8rdua de la funci\u00f3 dels gens protectors, anomenats antioncogens o gens supressors tumorals. Normalment ambdues categories de gens, procancerosos i anticancerosos, es troben en regions diferents dels nostres cromosomes. Un estudi coordinat per Manel Esteller, director del programa d’epigen\u00e8tica i biologia del c\u00e0ncer de l’Institut d’Investigaci\u00f3 Biom\u00e8dica de Bellvitge (IDIBELL), professor de gen\u00e8tica de la Universitat de Barcelona i investigador ICREA, ha descobert l’exist\u00e8ncia d’una mol\u00e8cula antitumoral que s’origina dins d’un oncog\u00e8n. La troballa es publica aquesta setmana a la revista cient\u00edfica Nature Structural & Molecular Biology<\/em>.<\/p>\n

L\u2019antioncog\u00e8n identificat \u00e9s un \u00e0cid ribonucleic llarg no codificant (lncRNA), \u00e9s a dir, una mol\u00e8cula que no produeix prote\u00efnes ella mateixa sin\u00f3 que s’encarrega de regular l’expressi\u00f3 d’altres prote\u00efnes. En concret, la mol\u00e8cula identificada es fabrica dins d’un gen que causa c\u00e0ncer (SMYD3) pel que la seva funci\u00f3 en c\u00e8l\u00b7lules sanes consisteix en inhibir l’acci\u00f3 pro-cancerosa de l’oncog\u00e8n.
\nSi s’introdueix aquest fragment d’\u00e0cid ribonucleic a c\u00e8l\u00b7lules canceroses que creixen al laboratori o a tumors humans implantats en animals de recerca \u00e9s capa\u00e7 de bloquejar el creixement del c\u00e0ncer. “Creiem que aquest descobriment ser\u00e0 el punt de partida per trobar molts altres oncogens i antioncogens que cohabiten en regions del nostre genoma i que, quan la seva conviv\u00e8ncia es deteriora, contribueixen al desenvolupament de tumors humans”, comenta el Dr Esteller.<\/p>\n
