Els bessons monozig\u00f2tics tenen el mateix genoma, \u00e9s a dir, una mol\u00e8cula d’ADN igual en ambd\u00f3s germans. Tot i ser gen\u00e8ticament id\u00e8ntics, tots dos bessons poden presentar malalties diferents en temps diferents. Aquest fenomen s’anomena “discordan\u00e7a de bessons”. Per\u00f2, com \u00e9s possible que persones que tenen la mateixa seq\u00fc\u00e8ncia gen\u00e8tica presentin patologies diferents i en edats diferents? L’explicaci\u00f3 rau en part en qu\u00e8, encara que el seu ADN sigui id\u00e8ntic, els senyals qu\u00edmics que s’afegeixen al mateix per “apagar” o “engegar” els gens poden ser diferents: es tracta de les marques epigen\u00e8tiques.<\/p>\n

L’equip dirigit per l’investigador Manel Esteller, director del Programa d’Epigen\u00e8tica i Biologia del C\u00e0ncer de l’Institut d’Investigaci\u00f3 Biom\u00e8dica de Bellvitge (IDIBELL), professor de Gen\u00e8tica de la Universitat de Barcelona i investigador ICREA, ha identificat un canvi epigen\u00e8tic que t\u00e9 lloc a la bessona que desenvolupar\u00e0 c\u00e0ncer de mama que no est\u00e0 present en la bessona sana. La troballa s’ha publicat aquesta setmana a la revista Carcinogenesis.<\/p>\n

El grup de recerca dirigit per Esteller va estudiar els nivells de metilaci\u00f3 de l’ADN (la marca epigen\u00e8tica m\u00e9s coneguda) en la sang de 36 parells de bessones amb diagn\u00f2stic de c\u00e0ncer de mama o sanes. Els investigadors van analitzar mig mili\u00f3 de peces del genoma en cada bessona i les van comparar entre si, i van observar que la dona que desenvolupava un tumor de mama presentava un guany patol\u00f2gic de metilaci\u00f3 en el gen DOK7. “Es pot detectar l’alteraci\u00f3 epigen\u00e8tica associada a un major risc de c\u00e0ncer de mama a la bessona que emmalaltir\u00e0 uns pocs anys abans del diagn\u00f2stic cl\u00ednic”, comenta el Dr. Esteller sobre els resultats de la recerca.<\/p>\n

El seg\u00fcent pas a seguir pels investigadors ser\u00e0 con\u00e8ixer la funci\u00f3 exacta del gen DOK7. “Creiem que \u00e9s un regulador de les tirosina-quinases, unes dianes de f\u00e0rmacs antitumorals que ja s’utilitzen en el tractament del c\u00e0ncer de mama. Si DOK7 exerceix aquesta funci\u00f3, es podrien planejar estudis per a l’\u00fas de f\u00e0rmacs amb efecte de quimioprevenci\u00f3 tumoral en c\u00e0ncer de mama”, conclou el coordinador de la investigaci\u00f3.<\/p>\n
