L’aparici\u00f3 de met\u00e0stasi \u00e9s responsable del 90% de morts en pacients amb c\u00e0ncer, per aquest motiu entendre els mecanismes responsables d’aquest proc\u00e9s \u00e9s un dels objectius principals de la investigaci\u00f3 en c\u00e0ncer. El proc\u00e9s de met\u00e0stasi consisteix en una s\u00e8rie de passos encadenats en qu\u00e8 el tumor primari envaeix teixits ve\u00efns i acaba disseminant-se per tot l’organisme .<\/p>\n

Un article publicat avui a la revista Molecular Cell amb la col\u00b7laboraci\u00f3 del grup de Manel Esteller, director del Programa d’Epigen\u00e8tica i Biologia del C\u00e0ncer de l’Institut d’Investigaci\u00f3 Biom\u00e8dica de Bellvitge (IDIBELL), Investigador ICREA i professor de Gen\u00e8tica de la Universitat de Barcelona, descriu una de les claus per entendre la met\u00e0stasi en c\u00e0ncer de mama.<\/p>\n

La investigaci\u00f3 demostra que en un 15% de tumors de mama hi ha un nombre excessiu de c\u00f2pies del gen EMSY en el material gen\u00e8tic de les pacients que indueix la p\u00e8rdua de factors protectors de met\u00e0stasi. El treball dirigit des de la Universitat de Cambridge \u00e9s un exemple de recerca translacional i multidisciplin\u00e0ria, i en el qual han col\u00b7laborat , a m\u00e9s del grup de Manel Esteller, el laboratori d’Alberto Villanueva de l’Institut Catal\u00e0 d’Oncologia- IDIBELL.<\/p>\n

Segons l\u2019estudi, aquells tumors de mama amb c\u00f2pies extres del gen EMSY en el seu genoma s\u00f3n capa\u00e7os de reclutar m\u00faltiples mol\u00e8cules per apagar l’activitat de gens anti-mest\u00e0stasi com l’anomenat microRNA-31. Els investigadors tamb\u00e9 van comprovar que si aconseguien disminuir la funci\u00f3 de EMSY, els factors protectors de met\u00e0stasi es tornaven a activar i no es produ\u00efa la disseminaci\u00f3 del tumor.<\/p>\n

“Aquest \u00faltim troballa podria despertar l’inter\u00e8s en la recerca de f\u00e0rmacs capa\u00e7os de bloquejar a la prote\u00efna EMSY” comenta Esteller. “A m\u00e9s en aquest cas” afegeix l’investigador “seria m\u00e9s f\u00e0cil identificar les pacients que podrien ser sensibles al f\u00e0rmac ja qu\u00e8 en principi serien aquelles que presentessin una sobredosi d’aquest oncogen EMSY en l’an\u00e0lisi gen\u00e8tica. Un proc\u00e9s similar al que ja es realitza per a la detecci\u00f3 del marcador HER2 en c\u00e0ncer de mama que permet el seu tractament amb un f\u00e0rmac espec\u00edfic”.<\/p>\n
