La neurotransmissi\u00f3 \u00e9s un dels fenomens m\u00e9s complexes de la naturalesa i en el qual una maquin\u00e0ria proteica ha d\u2019interaccionar de forma precisa i eficient en tan sols uns quants mil\u00b7lisegons. Per aix\u00f2, sempre ha estat especialment dificult\u00f3s d\u2019estudiar al laboratori. Un dels enigmes era el rol de la Complexina, una prote\u00efna que es troba alterada en diverses malalties com l\u2019esquizofr\u00e8nia, l\u2019Alzheimer o el P\u00e0rkinson. Fins ara, alguns estudis la mostraven com a activadora de l\u2019alliberaci\u00f3 de neurotransmissors, mentre que en altres estudis i en certs tipus de sinapsis s\u2019observava l\u2019efecte contrari. Aquestes discrep\u00e0ncies se solien atribuir a difer\u00e8ncies en els procediments experimentals i\/o a l\u2019esp\u00e8cie estudiada, per\u00f2 ara s\u2019ha descobert que no \u00e9s aix\u00ed.<\/p>\n

En un estudi publicat a la revista PNAS, un equip d\u2019investigadors de l\u2019IDIBELL, la UB i l\u2019Institut Max-Planck de Ci\u00e8ncies Multidisciplinars (MPI-NAT), ha aconseguit explicar aquestes discrep\u00e0ncies com a conseq\u00fc\u00e8ncia d\u2019un rol dual de la Complexina. Gr\u00e0cies al lideratge i la recerca pr\u00e8via dels Drs Holger Taschenberger i Kun-Han Lin, i als Profs. Nils Brose i Erwin Neher, aquest \u00faltim guanyador del premi Nobel de Fisiologia o Medicina el 1991, el grup de recerca ha utilitzat tecnologies d\u2019electrofisiologia d\u2019\u00faltima generaci\u00f3 per analitzar la funci\u00f3 de la Complexina en diverses sinapsis centrals. En base a les respostes sin\u00e0ptiques obtingudes, s\u2019ha elaborat un model matem\u00e0tic que pot reconciliar els dos rols aparentment contradictoris de la Complexina: conclouen que aquesta prote\u00efna t\u00e9 una funci\u00f3 dual. Per una banda, actua com a punt de control assegurant la correcta preparaci\u00f3 de les ves\u00edcules abans que arribi l\u2019est\u00edmul nervi\u00f3s i, per altra, tamb\u00e9 promou la fusi\u00f3 de les ves\u00edcules durant l\u2019est\u00edmul nervi\u00f3s. La seva abs\u00e8ncia provoca la formaci\u00f3 de ves\u00edcules defectuoses i l\u2019alliberaci\u00f3 aberrant de neurotransmissors fora de l\u2019est\u00edmul nervi\u00f3s, en contrast amb un marcat d\u00e8ficit d\u2019alliberaci\u00f3 durant aquest.<\/p>\n

El Dr Francisco L\u00f3pez-Murcia, primer autor d\u2019aquest estudi i investigador principal de l\u2019IDIBELL i la Facultat de Medicina i Ci\u00e8ncies de la Salut i l\u2019Institut de Neuroci\u00e8ncies de la Universitat de Barcelona en aquest grup sat\u00e8l\u00b7lit de l\u2019Institut Max-Planck, creu fermament que \u201camb temps, aquest article ser\u00e0 considerat una fita en la recerca en neurobiologia\u201d.<\/p>\n

El Dr L\u00f3pez-Murcia s\u2019ha incorporat recentment al grup de recerca en neurobiologia cel\u00b7lular i molecular de l\u2019IDIBELL i la UB despr\u00e9s de fer el postdoctorat al laboratori del Prof. Nils Brose a l\u2019MPI-NAT, a G\u00f6ttingen. Almenys durant els propers cinc anys, aquest grup de recerca seguir\u00e0 vinculat a l\u2019Institut Max Planck com a grup sat\u00e8l\u00b7lit, \u00e9s a dir, comptar\u00e0 amb la col\u00b7laboraci\u00f3 entre investigadors i tamb\u00e9 en rebr\u00e0 finan\u00e7ament. Gr\u00e0cies a aix\u00f2 i a beques pr\u00f2pies, ja ha pogut establir aqu\u00ed el laboratori des d\u2019on seguir investigant per \u201caconseguir entendre millor les complicacions nervioses que mostren els individus amb mutacions en la Complexina i altres prote\u00efnes sin\u00e0ptiques\u201d.<\/p>\n

L\u2019Institut d’Investigaci\u00f3 Biom\u00e8dica de Bellvitge (IDIBELL) \u00e9s un centre de recerca en biomedicina creat l\u2019any 2004. L’any 2009 es va convertir en un dels cinc primers centres d\u2019investigaci\u00f3 espanyols acreditats com a institut d\u2019investigaci\u00f3 sanit\u00e0ria per l\u2019Instituto de Salud Carlos III. A m\u00e9s, forma part del programa \u201cHR Excellence in Research\u201d de la Uni\u00f3 Europea i \u00e9s membre de EATRIS i REGIC.
