Un treball de recerca liderat per neuroradi\u00f2legs i neur\u00f2legs de l\u2019IDIBELL, l\u2019Hospital Universitari de Bellvitge i l\u2019Institut de Diagn\u00f2stic per la Imatge ha identificat un nou biomarcador de resson\u00e0ncia magn\u00e8tica. Aquest biomarcador permetria detectar amb precisi\u00f3 focus d\u2019inflamaci\u00f3 cerebral cr\u00f2nica, associats a la forma progressiva de l\u2019esclerosi m\u00faltiple.<\/p>\n

La investigaci\u00f3, publicada aquest mes de juny a la prestigiosa revista European Radiology<\/em><\/a>, \u00e9s el primer fruit d\u2019una nova l\u00ednia de col\u00b7laboraci\u00f3 entre el Servei de Radiodiagn\u00f2stic i la Unitat d\u2019Esclerosi M\u00faltiple \u2013 EMXarxa de l\u2019Hospital Universitari de Bellvitge. Aquesta col\u00b7laboraci\u00f3 t\u00e9 com a objectiu fer recerca a nivell d\u2019imatge en esclerosi m\u00faltiple.<\/p>\n

En aquest estudi, liderat pel neuroradi\u00f2leg i investigador de l\u2019IDIBELL Pablo Naval Baud\u00edn, s\u2019analitzen\u00a0 les caracter\u00edstiques de les lesions de subst\u00e0ncia blanca cerebral anomenades phase rim lesions<\/em> (lesions de ribet de paramagn\u00e8tic). Aquestes lesions es consideren potencials biomarcadors de la forma progressiva de la malaltia, per\u00f2 la seva detecci\u00f3 \u00e9s complexa i requereix de t\u00e8cniques avan\u00e7ades de imatge que no sempre estan disponibles i que s\u00f3n dif\u00edcils de quantificar de manera objectiva.<\/p>\n

Gr\u00e0cies a les dades cl\u00edniques aportades pels neur\u00f2legs i l\u2019an\u00e0lisi feta pels radi\u00f2legs de les exploracions a pacients amb aquesta lesi\u00f3 i a pacients amb altres lesions, s\u2019ha determinat que l\u2019\u00fas d\u2019imatges ponderades en T1 tridimensional \u2013un tipus d\u2019imatge de resson\u00e0ncia magn\u00e8tica est\u00e0ndard i \u00e0mpliament accessible\u2013 permet detectar les phase-rim lesions<\/em> i quantificar-les d\u2019una manera relativament senzilla i objectiva.<\/p>\n

Aquesta descoberta obre la porta a estudiar el seu \u00fas com a biomarcadors d\u2019\u00fas senzill per detectar preco\u00e7ment la forma progressiva de la malaltia i per millorar-ne els tractaments.<\/p>\n

Els pacients que pateixen la forma progressiva de l\u2019esclerosi m\u00faltiple no aconsegueixen el control i la remissi\u00f3 dels brots i van desenvolupant una discapacitat greu al llarg dels anys. Fins fa poc no hi havia ter\u00e0pies efectives per a ells, per\u00f2 recentment han aparegut tractaments que fan que treballs de recerca com aquest tinguin una gran import\u00e0ncia.<\/p>\n

Els resultats apuntats per l\u2019estudi i la seva aplicaci\u00f3 cl\u00ednica s\u2019hauran de confirmar i desenvolupar amb posteriors investigacions.<\/p>\n

L\u2019IDIBELL \u00e9s membre del Campus d’Excel\u00b7l\u00e8ncia Internacional de la Universitat de Barcelona HUBc i forma part de la instituci\u00f3 CERCA de la Generalitat de Catalunya. L’any 2009 es va convertir en un dels cinc primers centres d\u2019investigaci\u00f3 espanyols acreditats com a institut d\u2019investigaci\u00f3 sanit\u00e0ria per l\u2019Instituto de Salud Carlos III. A m\u00e9s, forma part del programa \u201cHR Excellence in Research\u201d de la Uni\u00f3 Europea i \u00e9s membre de EATRIS i REGIC.
