L’atr\u00f2fia d’una regi\u00f3 concreta del c\u00f2rtex cerebral est\u00e0 relacionada amb l’aparici\u00f3 d’apatia en pacients de Huntington<\/strong>, una malaltia neurodegenerativa que afecta la funci\u00f3 motora i cognitiva de les persones afectades. Aix\u00ed ho descriu un treball de l’Institut d’Investigaci\u00f3 Biom\u00e8dica de Bellvitge (IDIBELL) publicat a la revista Movement Disorders<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Aquests descobriments permetran predir la severitat i rapidesa en que l\u2019apatia es desenvolupar\u00e0 els pacients de Huntington. Aix\u00f2 suposa una nova eina de classificaci\u00f3 dels pacients en funci\u00f3 del seu perfil que en definir\u00e0 l\u2019evoluci\u00f3 de la malaltia.<\/p>\n

L’equip de la Dra. Estela C\u00e0mara<\/strong>, investigadora principal del grup de Cognici\u00f3 i Plasticitat Cerebral de l\u2019IDIBELL<\/a>, ha estudiat a trav\u00e9s de resson\u00e0ncies magn\u00e8tiques del cervell possibles regions afectades que determinessin l’aparici\u00f3 d’apatia. Els participants en l’estudi, 31 dones i 14 homes afectats per la malaltia de Huntington, han estat sotmesos a diverses resson\u00e0ncies al llarg del temps, els resultats de les quals s’han creuat amb l’aparici\u00f3 de caracter\u00edstiques neuropsiquiatriques, com l’apatia.<\/p>\n

Hem vist una clara relaci\u00f3 entre l’apatia i l’afectaci\u00f3 de la regi\u00f3 del c\u00f2rtex cerebral implicada en la iniciaci\u00f3 de les accions. A una major atrofia d\u2019aquesta regi\u00f3, major era la severitat i rapidesa en que aquets pacients acabaven desenvolupant l\u2019apatia<\/em>” comenta la Dra. C\u00e0mara<\/strong>. I afegeix, “la vulnerabilitat d’aquesta regi\u00f3 cerebral ja es pot detectar en els punts inicials, abans de l’aparici\u00f3 de l’apatia, el que ens pot permetre predir la severitat i progressi\u00f3 d’aquest tret neuropsiqui\u00e0tric<\/em>“.<\/p>\n

Audrey E. De Paepe<\/strong>, primera firmant del treball apunta que “l’apatia \u00e9s la caracter\u00edstica neuropsiqui\u00e0trica m\u00e9s comuna en els malalts de Huntington, i com a tal afecta de manera significativa a la qualitat de vida dels pacients i dels cuidadors, impactant tant en la seva autonomia com en la seva vida social<\/em>“, i continua, \u201ca m\u00e9s, l\u2019apatia est\u00e0 lligada al deteriorament cognitiu dels pacients, per tant l\u2019atrofia d\u2019aquesta regi\u00f3 del c\u00f2rtex tamb\u00e9 podria ser un bon indicador del tipus d\u2019evoluci\u00f3 que tindr\u00e0 un pacient en concret\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n

Aquest treball s\u2019ha fet en col\u00b7laboraci\u00f3 amb investigadors de la Universitat de Barcelona (UB), l\u2019Institut de Neuroci\u00e8ncies de la UB, Universitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona (UAB) i Institut d\u2019Investigacions Biom\u00e8diques Agust\u00ed Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS). En l\u2019estudi han participat tamb\u00e9 diferents hospitals, com Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, Hospital Universitari de Bellvitge, Hospital Cl\u00ednic o Hospital Mare de D\u00e9u de la Merc\u00e8.<\/p>\n

L\u2019Institut d’Investigaci\u00f3 Biom\u00e8dica de Bellvitge (IDIBELL) \u00e9s un centre de recerca en biomedicina creat l\u2019any 2004. L\u2019IDIBELL \u00e9s membre del Campus d’Excel\u00b7l\u00e8ncia Internacional de la Universitat de Barcelona HUBc i forma part de la instituci\u00f3 CERCA de la Generalitat de Catalunya. L’any 2009 es va convertir en un dels cinc primers centres d\u2019investigaci\u00f3 espanyols acreditats com a institut d\u2019investigaci\u00f3 sanit\u00e0ria per l\u2019Instituto de Salud Carlos III.
