Los resultados del estudio indican que la prote\u00edna NOX1, que forma parte de la familia de NADPH oxidasas, controla el crecimiento de las c\u00e9lulas tumorales del h\u00edgado, a trav\u00e9s de la regulaci\u00f3n de la v\u00eda que activa el receptor del factor de crecimiento epid\u00e9rmico (EGF). Este receptor est\u00e1 implicado en numerosos procesos alterados en las c\u00e9lulas cancerosas como el crecimiento, la apoptosis (muerte celular programada), la diferenciaci\u00f3n y la migraci\u00f3n celular.<\/p>\n
Los investigadores han demostrado que la inhibici\u00f3n de NOX1, mediante el uso de ARN de interferencia o de antioxidantes, disminuye el crecimiento de las c\u00e9lulas tumorales.<\/p>\n
La primera firmante del estudio, Patricia Sancho, destaca que \u201cla NAPH oxidasa NOX1 puede ser una nueva diana terap\u00e9utica para tratar el carcinoma hepatocelular\u201d.<\/p>\n
Esta enfermedad es el tipo m\u00e1s frecuente de c\u00e1ncer originado en el h\u00edgado. La aparici\u00f3n del carcinoma hepatocelular est\u00e1 relacionada con varias alteraciones moleculares, aunque la m\u00e1s evidente es la alteraci\u00f3n de los mecanismos que regulan el equilibrio entre proliferaci\u00f3n y muerte celular.<\/p>\n
