La revista Nature Medicine publica esta semana un estudio que describe por primera vez los mecanismos oncog\u00e9nicos provocados por alteraciones en el gen TLX1 en progenitores de c\u00e9lulas T, en leucemias linfobl\u00e1sticas agudas. En concreto, los investigadores han descubierto alteraciones cromos\u00f3micas y en el control de la mitosis. La investigaci\u00f3n ha contado con la participaci\u00f3n de Xavier Sol\u00e9, investigador del Instituto de Investigaci\u00f3n Biom\u00e9dica de Bellvitge (IDIBELL) y del Instituto Catal\u00e1n de Oncolog\u00eda (ICO).<\/p>\n

La leucemia linfobl\u00e1stica aguda de c\u00e9lulas T es un tumor hematol\u00f3gico agresivo que resulta de la transformaci\u00f3n maligna de los progenitores de las c\u00e9lulas T. Este tipo de c\u00e1ncer supone entre un 5% y un 10% de las leucemias infantiles y hasta el 30% de las adultas.<\/p>\n

Los investigadores han utilizado diversas t\u00e9cnicas de an\u00e1lisis gen\u00e9ticos para estudiar la transformaci\u00f3n celular inducida en modelos transg\u00e9nicos experimentales de rat\u00f3n que expresaban de manera aberrante el gen TLX1.<\/p>\n

El 92% de los animales estudiados hab\u00edan desarrollado 52 semanas despu\u00e9s una leucemia linfobl\u00e1stica aguda de c\u00e9lulas T. Los tumores mostraban un alto nivel de heterogeneidad a nivel inmuno-fenot\u00edpico.<\/p>\n

El investigador del IDIBELL-ICO Xavier Sol\u00e9 ha colaborado en el an\u00e1lisis bioinform\u00e1tico. \u201cLas conclusiones de la investigaci\u00f3n suponen un paso muy importante en el conocimiento de los mecanismos que se encuentran detr\u00e1s de la sobreexpresi\u00f3n del gen TLX1 en las leucemias linfobl\u00e1sticas de c\u00e9lulas T\u201d, explica el investigador, aunque, concluye, \u201cahora se deber\u00e1n realizar nuevos estudios antes de aplicar estos conocimientos a la pr\u00e1ctica cl\u00ednica.\u201d
