Aquesta \u00e9s la gran pregunta que mou tota la recerca al laboratori de Sistemes Gen\u00e8tics que dirigeix l\u2019investigador ICREA Ben Lehner al Centre de Regulaci\u00f3 Gen\u00f2mica de Barcelona. Lehner ha explicat els seus darrers aven\u00e7os dins el cicle de seminaris de l\u2019IDIBELL el passat 4 de novembre.
El grupo de Lehner pretende entender por qu\u00e9 dos individuos id\u00e9nticos gen\u00e9ticamente, que presentan una misma mutaci\u00f3n, no siempre presentan el mismo fenotipo. \u201cEn humanos, esto se acostumbra a explicar por el ambiente. Por eso es por lo que estudiamos organismos m\u00e1s simples en el laboratorio d\u00f3nde se pueden controlar los factores ambientales y con los cuales se pueden repetir los experimentos muchas veces. Y hemos visto que tiene que existir alg\u00fan otro mecanismo que explique por qu\u00e9 individuos iguales en condiciones ambientales controladas no presentan el mismo fenotipo\u201d.
Lehner trabaja con levaduras y con C.elegans y lo que ha visto es que \u201cla expresi\u00f3n gen\u00e9tica depende de los genes y del ambiente pero tambi\u00e9n interviene una variaci\u00f3n que se debe al azar. No se trata de un interruptor con las dos posiciones on\/off y ya est\u00e1. Hay algo m\u00e1s\u201d.
Ben Lehner utiliza experimentos y an\u00e1lisis computacionales para entender los principios y la evoluci\u00f3n de los sistemas gen\u00e9ticos. Su investigaci\u00f3n se centra en entender y poder predecir c\u00f3mo las mutaciones dan como resultado cambios fenot\u00edpicos, y c\u00f3mo estas mutaciones se combinan para causar enfermedades, la evoluci\u00f3n y la importancia de la redundancia gen\u00e9tica, la evoluci\u00f3n de las redes de regulaci\u00f3n y la interacci\u00f3n entre el ruido, la plasticidad y el potencial evolutivo.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
