El gen BRG1<\/strong><\/p>\nEl grupo de Genes y C\u00e1ncer del IDIBELL liderado por la investigadora Montse S\u00e1nchez-C\u00e9spedes descubri\u00f3 hace unos a\u00f1os que el gen BRG1, supresor de tumores, est\u00e1 inactivado en el c\u00e1ncer de pulm\u00f3n de c\u00e9lula no peque\u00f1a por mutaciones gen\u00e9ticas. \u00abLa prote\u00edna BRG1 forma parte de un complejo remodelador de cromatina que regula la expresi\u00f3n de varios genes\u201d, ha explicado la investigadora, \u201cy est\u00e1 relacionado con la diferenciaci\u00f3n de las c\u00e9lulas pulmonares, ya que permite la respuesta de las c\u00e9lulas a determinadas hormonas y vitaminas del ambiente como la vitamina A o los corticoides\u201d.<\/p>\n
Cuando BRG1 est\u00e1 mutado y por lo tanto inactivo, las c\u00e9lulas tumorales no responden a la presencia de estas hormonas y contin\u00faan creciendo y expandi\u00e9ndose. Por este motivo, estos tipos de tumores son refractarios a tratamientos con estas sustancias.<\/p>\n
Aplicaci\u00f3n cl\u00ednica<\/strong><\/p>\n\u201cPor el momento\u201d, advierte Montse S\u00e1nchez-C\u00e9spedes, \u201cno somos capaces de restituir la funcionalidad de un gen supresor de tumores como es BRG1 en los pacientes. Por lo tanto, todav\u00eda estamos muy lejos de una aplicaci\u00f3n terap\u00e9utica pero el descubrimiento nos permite conocer mejor la biolog\u00eda de los tumores. Lo que queremos hacer en un futuro inmediato es buscar agentes que destruyan espec\u00edficamente las c\u00e9lulas con BRG1 mutado, siguiendo la estrategia de los letales sint\u00e9ticos\u201d.<\/p>\n
En cualquier caso, el hallazgo s\u00ed puede ser \u00fatil en el avance de la medicina personalizada, ya qu\u00e9 \u201cexplica porque los pacientes con c\u00e1ncer de pulm\u00f3n son resistentes a estos tratamientos y podr\u00eda servir para descartar las terapias con derivados de hormonas lip\u00eddicas en pacientes que presenten mutaciones en BRG1, no s\u00f3lo en c\u00e1ncer de pulm\u00f3n, sino tambi\u00e9n en c\u00e1ncer de mama y pr\u00f3stata, entre otros\u201d.<\/p>\n
