Investigadores del IDIBELL han demostrado que las c\u00e9lulas de c\u00e1ncer de mama que hacen met\u00e1stasis en el pulm\u00f3n expresan un mayor nivel de la prote\u00edna peroxirredoxina 2 (PRDX2). El estudio sugiere que la modulaci\u00f3n de los niveles de esta prote\u00edna podr\u00eda ser una nueva estrategia terap\u00e9utica para prevenir la met\u00e1stasis pulmonar. Los resultados del estudio se han avanzado en la edici\u00f3n digital de la revista Oncogene<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n La PRDX2 es una enzima de oxidaci\u00f3n-reducci\u00f3n que protege a las c\u00e9lulas de los radicales libres y por lo tanto del estr\u00e9s oxidativo. Esto es necesario en las c\u00e9lulas pulmonares que viven en un ambiente con mucho ox\u00edgeno. En las c\u00e9lulas de c\u00e1ncer de mama, la sobreexpresi\u00f3n de PRDX2 tambi\u00e9n las protege del estr\u00e9s oxidativo y promueve su crecimiento y proliferaci\u00f3n en los pulmones, es decir, la met\u00e1stasis.<\/p>\n Nuevo abordaje terap\u00e9utico y preventivo<\/strong><\/p>\n El equipo coordinado por la investigadora del grupo de Claves Biol\u00f3gicas del Fenotipo Invasivo y Metast\u00e1tico del IDIBELL, \u00c0ngels Sierra, realiz\u00f3 varios experimentos en l\u00edneas celulares y modelos animales de ratones que demuestran que niveles bajos de expresi\u00f3n de PRDX2 en c\u00e9lulas tumorales son suficientes para interrumpir el proceso metast\u00e1tico en el pulm\u00f3n.<\/p>\n \u201cEstos hallazgos\u201d, ha explicado Sierra, \u201csugieren que la modificaci\u00f3n de la expresi\u00f3n de PRDX2 podr\u00eda dar lugar a un nuevo abordaje terap\u00e9utico para prevenir la met\u00e1stasis pulmonar, puesto que existen f\u00e1rmacos, que ya se est\u00e1n probando en otras enfermedades, capaces de inhibir la prote\u00edna\u201d. Para Sierra, el siguiente paso \u201ces validar en un n\u00famero suficiente elevado de pacientes que la expresi\u00f3n de esta prote\u00edna es un biomarcador del riesgo de met\u00e1stasis de pulm\u00f3n en c\u00e1ncer de mama. Si es as\u00ed, a estas pacientes se les podr\u00eda administrar un tratamiento complementario a la quimioterapia para prevenir la met\u00e1stasis pulmonar\u201d.<\/p>\n En este estudio han participado, adem\u00e1s del IDIBELL, el Inserm de Lyon<\/span><\/a>, el Instituto de Investigaci\u00f3n Biom\u00e9dica de Lleida,<\/span><\/a> la Universidad de Barcelona <\/span><\/a>y el Instituto de Ciencias Fot\u00f3nicas<\/span><\/a>.
