Investigadores del Instituto de Investigaci\u00f3n Biom\u00e9dica de Bellvitge (IDIBELL) y del Instituto de Ciencias Fot\u00f3nicas (ICFO) han colaborado en el desarrollo de una herramienta de diagn\u00f3stico que identifica la capacidad metast\u00e1sica de las c\u00e9lulas de c\u00e1ncer de mama. El an\u00e1lisis se basa en la caracterizaci\u00f3n del componente lip\u00eddico de las c\u00e9lulas, que es indicativo de su malignidad. Este fen\u00f3meno ha permitido desarrollar un clasificador para discriminar las c\u00e9lulas con capacidad para inducir met\u00e1stasis. Los resultados del trabajo se han publicado en la versi\u00f3n online de la revista cient\u00edfica PLOS ONE.<\/p>\n

La caracterizaci\u00f3n de los l\u00edpidos asociados a malignidad ha sido posible gracias al desarrollo tecnol\u00f3gico de la espectroscopia de Raman junto a la versatilidad que ofrecen los modelos experimentales de c\u00e1ncer de mama. Los resultados de este proceso sientan las bases para introducir esta t\u00e9cnica en el diagn\u00f3stico citol\u00f3gico de rutina, que podr\u00eda hacerse extensivo en un futuro al diagn\u00f3stico de otros tumores.<\/p>\n

Los investigadores analizaron los componentes principales y, parcialmente, los menos discriminantes para evaluar el perfil diferente de la composici\u00f3n lip\u00eddica de las c\u00e9lulas del c\u00e1ncer de mama. Generaron un modelo de clasificaci\u00f3n que segreg\u00f3 c\u00e9lulas metast\u00e1sicas y no metast\u00e1sicas. \u201cEl algoritmo para la discriminaci\u00f3n de la capacidad metast\u00e1sica es un primer paso hacia la estratificaci\u00f3n de las c\u00e9lulas de c\u00e1ncer de mama utilizando esta herramienta r\u00e1pida y sin reactivo\u201d, seg\u00fan la coordinadora del estudio, \u00c0ngels Sierra, del grupo Claves Biol\u00f3gicas del Fenotipo Invasivo y Metast\u00e1tico del IDIBELL.<\/p>\n

Mediante el estudio citol\u00f3gico, los investigadores han encontrado una correlaci\u00f3n entre la activaci\u00f3n de la lipog\u00e9nesis (la reacci\u00f3n qu\u00edmica que da lugar a los \u00e1cidos grasos en un organismo) y la cantidad de l\u00edpidos saturados en las c\u00e9lulas metast\u00e1sicas que indicar\u00eda un peor pron\u00f3stico de la enfermedad y una menor supervivencia. El contenido de l\u00edpidos de las c\u00e9lulas de c\u00e1ncer de mama podr\u00eda ser una medida \u00fatil para determinar diversas funciones acopladas a la progresi\u00f3n del c\u00e1ncer de mama. El trabajo ha sido financiado por el Instituto de Salud Carlos III, el Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovaci\u00f3n y por la Fundaci\u00f3n privada Cellex Barcelona.<\/p>\n
