Investigadores del grupo de Transformaci\u00f3n y Met\u00e1stasis del Instituto de Investigaci\u00f3n Biom\u00e9dica de Bellvitge (IDIBELL), liderados por Eva Gonz\u00e1lez-Su\u00e1rez, han demostrado que la sobreexpresi\u00f3n de la v\u00eda de se\u00f1alizaci\u00f3n RANK interfiere en la diferenciaci\u00f3n de las c\u00e9lulas que forman las gl\u00e1ndulas mamarias. Esto produce una acumulaci\u00f3n de c\u00e9lulas no diferenciadas que conduce finalmente al desarrollo de tumores.<\/p>\n
En estudios anteriores, el laboratorio de Eva Gonz\u00e1lez-Su\u00e1rez ya hab\u00eda demostrado que la sobreactivaci\u00f3n de la v\u00eda de se\u00f1alizaci\u00f3n RANK promueve el inicio, progresi\u00f3n y met\u00e1stasis de los tumores en las c\u00e9lulas epiteliales de mama.<\/p>\n
En este art\u00edculo, publicado en la revista Stem Cells, los investigadores han estudiado de forma exhaustiva el papel de RANK en la diferenciaci\u00f3n de las c\u00e9lulas mamarias a partir de un modelo animal de rat\u00f3n transg\u00e9nico que tiene sobreactivada esta v\u00eda.<\/p>\n

\nEn un rat\u00f3n no transg\u00e9nico, con niveles de RANK normales, las c\u00e9lulas de los ductos (los conductos por donde circula la leche en las gl\u00e1ndulas mamarias) est\u00e1n diferenciadas en dos linajes: las c\u00e9lulas luminales que est\u00e1n orientadas a la luz del conducto y las c\u00e9lulas basales que las recubren. \u00abLas dos poblaciones celulares est\u00e1n perfectamente separadas y ordenadas\u00bb seg\u00fan ha explicado Eva Gonz\u00e1lez-Su\u00e1rez \u00abpero en los animales modificados gen\u00e9ticamente con altos niveles de expresi\u00f3n de RANK se observan diversas anomal\u00edas que afectan la morfolog\u00eda: los ductos est\u00e1n desorganizados, no se forman capas continuas de c\u00e9lulas y \u00e9stas no est\u00e1n orientadas como deber\u00edan\u00bb.<\/p>\n
