La Princesa Letizia ha presidido el congreso de celebraci\u00f3n de los 60 a\u00f1os de la Asociaci\u00f3n Espa\u00f1ola Contra el C\u00e1ncer (aecc) celebrado el 19 de septiembre en el Palacio de Congresos de Madrid. Durante el acto se han entregado las ayudas a la investigaci\u00f3n 2013 concedidas por la asociaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n
Una de las ayudas a grupo coordinado estable con una duraci\u00f3n de cinco a\u00f1os y una financiaci\u00f3n de un mill\u00f3n doscientos mil euros ha sido para el proyecto de investigaci\u00f3n en Sarcoma de Ewing, un tipo de c\u00e1ncer infantil localizado en los huesos. El grupo est\u00e1 formado por m\u00e9dicos e investigadores del Hospital Universitario Virgen del Roc\u00edo de Sevilla, liderados por Enrique de \u00c1lava, del Hospital San Juan de Dios con Jaume Mora al frente y del grupo de investigaci\u00f3n en Sarcomas del Instituto de Investigaci\u00f3n Biom\u00e9dica de Bellvitge (IDIBELL) encabezado por Oscar Mart\u00ednez-Tirado.<\/p>\n
El sarcoma de Ewing es el segundo c\u00e1ncer de hueso m\u00e1s com\u00fan y afecta a ni\u00f1os y j\u00f3venes. Actualmente, si se diagnostica a tiempo y no presenta met\u00e1stasis, se puede curar en el 80% de los casos pero entre el 25% y el 30% de los casos se diagnostican cuando ya existe met\u00e1stasis y la supervivencia baja hasta el 30%.<\/p>\n
Coincidiendo con su 60 aniversario, la aecc ha concedido m\u00e1s de cuatro millones de euros destinados a siete nuevos proyectos de investigaci\u00f3n y a la estabilizaci\u00f3n de once investigadores m\u00e1s para que puedan seguir llevando a cabo su investigaci\u00f3n. En total, la AEEC ha comprometido durante el a\u00f1o 2013 cerca de 14 millones de euros en investigaci\u00f3n oncol\u00f3gica.
