Un estudio del Instituto de Investigaci\u00f3n Biom\u00e9dica de Bellvitge (IDIBELL) dirigido por la jefa del grupo de investigaci\u00f3n en v\u00edas de se\u00f1alizaci\u00f3n en angiog\u00e9nesis<\/strong>, Mariona Graupera<\/strong>, concluye que la inhibici\u00f3n de la prote\u00edna p110alfa en ratones provoca una reducci\u00f3n del crecimiento tumoral asociado a un defecto en la formaci\u00f3n de vasos sangu\u00edneos. Los resultados del estudio se han publicado en la revista Journal of Experimental Medicine.<\/p>\n

La p110alfa es una isoforma (una variante) de la prote\u00edna PI3Kinasa que est\u00e1 alterada de una forma u otra en m\u00e1s del 30% de los tumores. En un estudio anterior, el grupo de Graupera ya hab\u00eda demostrado que esta isoforma tiene un papel clave en el proceso fisiol\u00f3gico de formaci\u00f3n vasos sangu\u00edneos, llamada angiog\u00e9nesis. \u00abLo que hemos querido comprobar en este trabajo \u00bb dice la investigadora \u00abes si en contexto de c\u00e1ncer tambi\u00e9n juega ese papel\u00bb.<\/p>\n

Angiog\u00e9nesis<\/strong>
\nLa angiog\u00e9nesis es un proceso clave en el crecimiento, proliferaci\u00f3n y migraci\u00f3n de los tumores s\u00f3lidos. Las c\u00e9lulas tumorales necesitan nuevos vasos sangu\u00edneos que les aporten el ox\u00edgeno y los nutrientes extras que necesitan para desarrollarse a un ritmo tan r\u00e1pido. Los investigadores inhibieron la p110alfa mediante dos estrategias: con f\u00e1rmacos y con ratones modificados gen\u00e9ticamente que no expresan la prote\u00edna. \u00abEn ambos casos\u00bb ha explicado Mariona Graupera \u00absu inhibici\u00f3n provoca una ralentizaci\u00f3n del crecimiento tumoral, asociado a un defecto en la formaci\u00f3n de los vasos \u00bb . \u00abSe forman m\u00e1s vasos pero son m\u00e1s peque\u00f1os de lo normal y no funcionan bien. De modo que a las c\u00e9lulas tumorales no les llega todo el ox\u00edgeno y los nutrientes que necesitan\u201d.<\/p>\n

Alternativa a las terapias convencionales<\/strong>
\nAunque de forma muy inicial, seg\u00fan Graupera \u00bb este estudio abre las puertas a nuevas terapias antiangiog\u00e9nicas alternativas a las convencionales que inhiben VEGF y que a la larga pueden desarrollar resistencia y malignidad. \u00bb<\/p>\n
