Las prote\u00ednas RCAN (Reguladoras de calcineurina) regulan procesos biol\u00f3gicos tan importantes como la respuesta inmune, la remodelaci\u00f3n de fibras musculares y la memoria, y est\u00e1n tambi\u00e9n involucradas en procesos patol\u00f3gicos como la hipertrofia card\u00edaca y las enfermedades neurodegenerativas. Profundizar en el papel que juegan estas prote\u00ednas a nivel celular es importante, dada su relevancia funcional.<\/p>\n

Estas prote\u00ednas est\u00e1n muy conservadas en eucariotas (organismos pluricelulares y, en concreto, en vertebrados forman una subfamilia funcional de tres miembros (RCAN1 , RCAN2 y RCAN3), mientras que en el resto de eucariotas s\u00f3lo se encuentra una prote\u00edna. Investigadores del grupo de Gen\u00e9tica Humana Molecular del IDIBELL, liderados por Merc\u00e8 P\u00e9rez proponen a partir del an\u00e1lisis bioinform\u00e1tico una nueva hip\u00f3tesis que explicar\u00eda c\u00f3mo han evolucionado los genes que codifican para esta familia de prote\u00ednas. En concreto, los autores proponen que las RCAN han evolucionado mediante dos ciclos de duplicaci\u00f3n total del genoma seguido de una duplicaci\u00f3n parcial del genoma. Adem\u00e1s, han analizado la estructura de todos los genes RCAN humanos, donde han identificado diferentes elementos estructurales comunes a todos ellos, as\u00ed como elementos que podr\u00edan estar involucrados en la regulaci\u00f3n de su expresi\u00f3n. Todos estos resultados proporcionan nuevos conocimientos sobre la familia de las RCAN y los mecanismos moleculares subyacentes a su funci\u00f3n en la c\u00e9lula. Este mayor conocimiento de esta familia es crucial ya que las RCAN son candidatas para el desarrollo de futuras terapias en diversas enfermedades, entre ellas las enfermedades inmunitarias.<\/p>\n
