Un estudio internacional concluye que los adultos hospitalizados con el virus de la gripe H1N1 durante la pandemia de los a\u00f1os 2009-2010 presentaban un 25 % menos de mortalidad si se les trataba con un f\u00e1rmaco antviral inhibidor de la neuroamidasa. Se trata de un metan\u00e1lisis con m\u00e1s de 29.000 pacientes publicado en The Lancet Respiratory Medical Journal y que ha merecido una editorial de la revista. El trabajo, que ha contado con la participaci\u00f3n del grupo de investigaci\u00f3n en Infecciones respiratorias en el hu\u00e9sped inmunocomprometido del Instituto de Investigaci\u00f3n Biom\u00e9dica de Bellvitge (IDIBELL) liderado por Jordi Carratal\u00e0, jefe del servicio de enfermedades infecciosas del Hospital Universitario de Bellvitge, tambi\u00e9n indica que el tratamiento durante los dos primeros d\u00edas del desarrollo de la gripe reduce a la mitad el riesgo de muerte comparado con un tratamiento m\u00e1s tard\u00edo o sin tratamiento .
\u00abEstos resultados nos permiten proponer una estrategia de tratamiento antiviral en pacientes hospitalizados por la gripe estacional durante las primeras 48 horas, tambi\u00e9n en pacientes de riesgo como embarazadas, pacientes con enfermedades card\u00edacas… reduciendo as\u00ed en un cuarto el riesgo de muerte\u00bb ha explicado Carratal\u00e0.
El f\u00e1rmaco testado durante la pandemia es un inhibidor de la neuroaminidasa, una prote\u00edna que se encuentra en la superficie de la membrana del virus y que le permite entrar en las c\u00e9lulas sanas y infectarlas para replicarse.
\u00abHasta ahora no se hab\u00eda podido hacer un estudio tan concluyente ya que normalmente la gripe estacional no provoca tantas hospitalizaciones como lo hizo la pandemia\u00bb ha argumentado Carratal\u00e0, que afirma que una de las bondades del tratamiento es que \u00abact\u00faa contra todos los virus de la gripe y por lo tanto se podr\u00e1 utilizar como estrategia contra la gripe estacional\u00bb.
