Un estudio publicado en la revista Scientific Reports, del grupo Nature, ha demostrado, por primera vez, usando herramientas computacionales, que los l\u00edpidos poliinsaturados pueden alterar la velocidad de uni\u00f3n de dos tipos de receptores involucrados en algunas enfermedades del sistema nervioso. Los investigadores de la UB Francisco Ciruela y Maricel G\u00f3mez-Soler (Facultad de Medicina e IDIBELL), y Juan Carlos Domingo y Bego\u00f1a Cordobilla (Facultad de Biolog\u00eda) participan en este estudio, que ha sido liderado por investigadores del Programa de Investigaci\u00f3n en Inform\u00e1tica Biom\u00e9dica del Instituto Hospital del Mar de Investigaciones M\u00e9dicas (IMIM) y de la Universidad Pompeu Fabra, junto con investigadores de la Universidad de Tampere (Finlandia). Mediante simulaciones moleculares de \u00faltima generaci\u00f3n, que vendr\u00edan a ser como \u00abmicroscopios computacionales\u00bb, los investigadores han demostrado que una disminuci\u00f3n de l\u00edpidos poliinsaturados en las membranas neuronales, como ocurre en los enfermos de Parkinson o Alzheimer, afecta directamente a la velocidad de uni\u00f3n los receptores de dopamina y adenosina. Estos receptores forman parte de la familia de los receptores acoplados a la prote\u00edna G (GPCR), localizados en la membrana celular y encargados de transmitir se\u00f1ales en el interior de la c\u00e9lula. Hasta ahora, diferentes estudios hab\u00edan demostrado que el perfil lip\u00eddico cerebral de personas con enfermedades como el Alzheimer y el Parkinson es muy diferente del de personas sanas. Estos estudios mostraban que los niveles de un \u00e1cido graso poliinsaturado presente en las membranas neuronales son considerablemente m\u00e1s bajos en el cerebro de los individuos enfermos. Los investigadores creen que esta diferencia en la composici\u00f3n lip\u00eddica de las membranas podr\u00eda alterar la forma en que ciertas prote\u00ednas interact\u00faan entre ellas, como en el caso de los receptores GPCR.
Estos resultados permitir\u00e1n, en un futuro, iniciar nuevas v\u00edas de intervenci\u00f3n terap\u00e9utica para regular la uni\u00f3n de estos receptores, bien a trav\u00e9s de la composici\u00f3n de los l\u00edpidos de la membrana o bien dise\u00f1ando nuevos l\u00edpidos que tengan un efecto modulador en esta velocidad de uni\u00f3n.
