Investigadoras del Servicio de Rehabilitaci\u00f3n y Fisioterapia del Hospital de Bellvitge – Instituto de Investigaci\u00f3n Biom\u00e9dica de Bellvitge (HUB-IDIBELL) han recibido la VI beca de investigaci\u00f3n b\u00e1sica en fisioterapia de la Sociedad Catalanobalear de Fisioterapia – vinculada a la Academia de Ciencias M\u00e9dicas -, que les permitir\u00e1 financiar parcialmente la validaci\u00f3n cl\u00ednica de un prototipo de software de tratamiento de im\u00e1genes dise\u00f1ado como terapia neuromuscular facial en pacientes con par\u00e1lisis facial perif\u00e9rica. Esto podr\u00eda permitir, en un futuro pr\u00f3ximo, que se integrara a los servicios de rehabilitaci\u00f3n, as\u00ed como ser utilizado por los pacientes como terapia en casa.
La expresi\u00f3n facial es la primera forma de comunicaci\u00f3n no verbal. La par\u00e1lisis facial no s\u00f3lo limita la capacidad para mostrar las emociones, sino que tambi\u00e9n puede producir d\u00e9ficits funcionales como la capacidad para cerrar los ojos, comer y hablar. En muchos pacientes, el cuadro cl\u00ednico se asocia una disminuci\u00f3n de la autoestima, ya que la cara es la tarjeta de presentaci\u00f3n de las personas y la asimetr\u00eda facial cambia su esquema corporal y hace que no se reconozcan.
Los objetivos principales de la rehabilitaci\u00f3n facial son: recuperar el \u00abpapel de identidad\u00bb de la cara del paciente y recuperar la funcionalidad en la realizaci\u00f3n de las actividades diarias. Por eso es necesario que trabaje en todos los aspectos: motor, sensitivo, cognitivo y emocional, que permiten la recuperaci\u00f3n de la unidad de la cara.
Desde el Servicio de Rehabilitaci\u00f3n del HUB se plante\u00f3 utilizar una terapia antes no utilizada para estos casos, \u00abthe mirror therapy\u00bb. Se trata de una t\u00e9cnica conocida desde los a\u00f1os 90 inicialmente para el tratamiento del dolor del miembro fantasma en pacientes amputados. Se cree que la adaptaci\u00f3n de esta t\u00e9cnica con las nuevas tecnolog\u00edas, en una versi\u00f3n software, puede ser beneficiosa para una r\u00e1pida recuperaci\u00f3n.
