The Royal Society will host the first scientific meeting between Spain and the United Kingdom, with the title \u201cNetworking Nations: Scientific opportunities in the UK and Spain\u201d, on 28 November. This meeting will contribute to the implementation of the Society\u2019s strategic objective to foster international cooperation by strengthening its links with European academies, funders, and governments.<\/p>\n
These scientific meetings forge new links between scientists from different countries, and help to explore opportunities for international and multidisciplinary cooperation. This first scientific meeting between the two countries will be attended by the Spanish researchers Avelino Corma, Juan Ad\u00e1nez, Jorge Villagra, Manel Esteller, Joan Grimalt, El\u00edas Fereres, Diego Rubiales, and Javier D\u00edaz Gim\u00e9nez and, on the British side, Karen Wilson, Scout E. Le Vine, Boris Adryan, Paul Williams, Tiina Roose and Marina Ranga.<\/p>\n
Their contributions will deal with research at the frontiers of scientific knowledge: safe, clean and efficient energy; intelligent transport; health and well-being; efficiency of resources and raw materials in the fight against climate change; food safety; and, social changes, scientific culture, the entrepreneurial spirit, innovation and collective attitudes.<\/p>\n
This meeting will be inaugurated by the Director of the Royal Society, Dr. Julie Maxton, and by the General Secretary for Science, Technology and Innovation, Rom\u00e1n Arjona. It has been organized on the initiative of the Spanish Embassy in London and it is sponsored by the Ram\u00f3n Areces Foundation and the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), with the collaboration of the Community of Spanish Scientists in the United Kingdom (CERU).<\/p>\n
