February 11 is the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. This day was proclaimed in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly. Its objective is to encourage actions that promote the visualization of the women scientists’ work and help create new female roles within the field. This day reminds us that girls and women play an essential role in the scientific community and that their participation must be promoted. That is why, from IDIBELL, in collaboration with the institution’s equality commission, we have programmed a series of actions to commemorate this day and join to their demands.

On February 12, the equality commission, in coordination with the Talent Unit, has organized a webinar about how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the mental health and social role of women. We will have the participation of experts such as Zulema Altamirano, director of the Women and Science Unit of the Ministry of Science and Innovation. And Dr. Susana Jiménez, from the IDIBELL Psychiatry and Mental Health research group, and head of the Pathological Gambling Unit of the Bellvitge University Hospital.

Also, thanks to the collaboration between the commission and the Communication and Fundraising Unit, a campaign on social media will present, from an artistic and innovative point of view, some of the IDIBELL woman scientists and their work. During this week, from February 8 to 12, stay tuned to the IDIBELL social media channels.

And, last but not least, on February 20 at 7:00 p.m. at the Barradas Auditorium in L’Hospitalet, the 4th scientific sLHam will take place. Eight researchers and professionals from IDIBELL will participate, and they will explain their work around research and innovation with a five-minute informative talk. In addition, the event will feature a musical performance by the young singer Gisela Quirós. The act will be carried out respecting all sanitary measures and with limited capacity. Those who wish to attend must reserve their seat, free of charge, at the following link: https://cutt.ly/slhamIDIBELL
