Nutrition, metabolism and gene therapy

Summary

The group is focused on studying the metabolic implications of chronic diseases such as Obesity, Diabetes and Cancer. Using gene therapy, the group aims to modify the genome or genomic regulation of a patient using various strategies, in order to replace a shortage caused by a mutation, gene deregulation or malfunction of a cell-signalling pathway.
Through this approach, this group studies cell metabolism, defining the mechanisms which the cells use to adapt to different conditions (stress due to lack of nutrients, physical effort, etc.), which it uses as a basis for proposing new strategies in the treatment of diseases such as diabetes and cancer, or in patients with liver damage or patients having undergone high-risk surgeries.
