Summary

The focus of the group is the implementation and dissemination research on population-based cancer screening programs as well as the evaluation of new strategies on early detection of cancer.

Strategic lines

Health impact assessment to demonstrate a favorable benefit/risk ratio of the population-based cancer screening programs: studies on adverse effects and mortality reduction.

Development of a set of indicators to identify relevant deviations during the screening process. Quality control indicators to measure professionals and screening units’ performance. Design and implementation of interventions addressed to improve clinical performance such as training courses.

Risk-stratified screening for breast and colorectal cancer: moving forward beyond an age-based method to select individuals for cancer screening.

Characterization and molecular subtyping of interval tumors in colorectal cancer screening.

Accessibility to the Cancer Screening Programs: small-areas spatial analysis to detect health disparities and other barriers to the cancer screening programs.

Implementation and evaluation of a multi-channel approach as a communication strategy with users to provide information regarding early detection of cancer and to improve participation in population-based screening programs.
