IDIBELL and CIBER researchers identify a new genetic disease that affects the development of the nervous system and causes liver failure

RINT1 mutations would be causing a deregulation of fat metabolism and intracellular communication of energy production. This is a significant advance in the understanding of this disease, and opens new perspectives for diagnosis and possible treatment in the future.

The natural antioxidant L-Ergothioneine prevents the formation of cystine stones in a murine model of cystinuria

Treatment with L-Ergothioneine manages to increase the solubility of cystine in urine, thus preventing the formation of stones or delaying their appearance. After treatment, an improvement in the oxidative status and mitochondrial function in the kidney is also observed. If these results are validated in future clinical trials, a new preventive treatment for this disease would be available.

Researchers outline the mechanisms that control the conversion between fetal and adult intestinal stem cells

In the two published studies, the scientific team uses the intestine organoid as a model, a three-dimensional structure similar to mini-intestines created in the laboratory from stem cells. Deciphering the functioning of some transcription factors in the formation of the intestine has been the objective of the team.
