The Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) has approved regulations on use of electronic cigarette in their centers. From now is disallowed the use or sale, promotion and advertising of electronic cigarettes (and similar devices) on the premises of ICO, in enclosed spaces (buildings ) and in the outdoor enclosure.

According to the recommendation of the Catalan Network of Smoke-free Hospitals , the Catalan Institute of Oncology recognizes that lack evidence on the benefits of electronic cigarettes to reduce consumption or smoking cessation , as well as safety. Also, use in spaces where smoking is prohibited may cause confusion because of the similarity to traditional cigarettes and can compromise the ” denormalization ” of snuff consumption achieved in the last decade.

Therefore, the Smokeless Committee has proposed to the Steering Committee applying to electronic cigarettes (and similar devices ) the same rules on snuff ICO centers.
